We are 11 weeks into the season & with only 2 more weeks of the regular season there is still a lot of movement to be made in terms of jockeying for playoff spots. There are currently 6 teams still in playoff contention vying for 5 playoff spots, 1 team already locked into the playoffs, & unfortunately 3 teams already out of the playoff race looking to play the roles of spoilers.
This year there has been a big difference in the quality of play from the 2 divisions. The Bud Light Division has pretty much established itself as the premier division between the two. Every team except 1 has a winning record. The results are the exact opposite for the Miller Lite Division where only 1 team has a winning record.
Prestige Worldwide has capitalized on their runner-up season from last year & pretty much dominated the season so far. Sitting at 8-3 they are the only team to have locked in a playoff spot so far this season. And of their 3 losses, 2 have come after 3 game winning streaks & the 3rd one after a 2 game winning streak. On a bad note, all 3 losses have been blowouts, with each loss being by more than 20 points & averaging 36.1. So it seems that when Prestige Worldwide losses, they lose big. On another note, even though they are locked into a playoff spot already, they still have to win their last 2 games to wrap up the #1 seed & a first round bye. On paper it looks like they should win both games. But their week 12 opponent already has 1 win over them in the regular season back in week 3, a 55 point drubbing 161.5 - 106.5.
In the Budlight Division after Prestige Worldwide, there are 3 teams vying for one of the 5 remaining playoff spots. Jersey Wahoos, Pineapple Express, & Team Premier are all tied at 7-4. Not only are they battling for a playoff spot, each team still has a chance for the #1 spot in the division, possibly the #1 seed in the playoffs, & a 1st round bye. If I were to make an unbiased prediction of their chances, I would have to pick Team Premier to be the team to watch out for. They are currently back from the ashes & riding a 4 game win streak after starting 3-4. They have also made some nice trades to improve their team over the last couple of weeks.
In the Miller Lite Division, the reigning champs Fist Pumpers (6-5) are trying to hold off RodnRoln (5-6) & Cowtown Rodeo Queen (5-6) for 1st place in the division, the #2 playoff seed, & a first round bye. It looks like a tall task for RodnRoln & Cowtown Rodeo Queen as Fist Pumpers are on a 2 game winning streak right now & have made some pretty big trades to upgrade their team. But with Fist Pumpers & RodnRoln playing each other this week, now is the time for RodnRoln to make a statement with a win & move into 1st in the division.
Now even though Bulldogs (4-7), 2011 Ravens (4-7), & Just Bring It (2-9) are mathmatically eliminated from playoff contention, they still have the consolation playoff bracket to look forward too. Especially since the winner of the consolation playoff bracket wins the right to the first pick in next years draft. By the looks of things, its also looking like they have started preparing for next years draft with some of the trades each team has made for draft picks.
Lots of drama look to be in the forecast over the next 2 weeks of the regular season. It looks like it is going to be a very exciting end to the season, with every playoff spot still up for grabs. Good luck to all the teams & lets have some fun!
